Bangladesh is a land of rivers. Our rivers abound with fish. Hilsa fish is one of them. Bangladesh is famous for this delicious fish. It is our national fish. It is called the king of fish too. Generally it lives in the salty water of the sea. But during their main breeding season in the month of June to September, they come to lay eggs in the sweet water. An adult fish lay eggs at the amount of 3 – 20 lakhs each time. A large amount of Hilsa was found in our country before. But now it is creasing. Catching Jatka is the main reason of it. Though Bangladesh government strictly prohibits to catch Jatka, yet thousands of Jatka are caught every day. However, we must be stopped to catch Jatka. Otherwise, we shall lose this valuable asset in near future. To stop catching Jatka public awareness should be risen. Print and electronic media can play a vital role in this regard.
