Rural development means the development of people, culture, tradition and economy of the villages. Bangladesh is a land of villages. There are sixty eight thousand villages in our country. More than 80% people of Bangladesh live in the villages. Agriculture and fishing are the main occupations of the villagers. The condition of rural people is very lamentable. Most of the village people live below the poverty line. They are deprived of the basic needs of life. They are poor, illiterate and affected with different kinds of diseases. How can a nation develop when her majority of the population are neglected and deprived of basic human nights? Therefore, rural development is the demand of time now. Some measures may be taken for rural development. Agricultural industrialization should get first priority. In the villages, agricultural products like rice, jute, vegetables, etc. are grown in plenty. Nevertheless, due to lack of cold storage and other preservation mechanism, our poor villagers lose a huge amount of money. Moreover, the farmers of our country should be taught the scientific method of agriculture. Therefore, it can be said that rural development is the true development of the country.
