Air is the most important element of human environment in this world. We cannot do a single moment without air. But it is a matter of fact that we do not think that it is we who pollute this most vital element.
Statistics on air pollution:
An estimated 6 million people worldwide die each year from air pollution. Of these, 4 million live in the Asia-Pacific region. More than ninety percent of those who die as a result of air pollution live in poor countries.
According to the World Health Organization, about 9 out of 10 people in the world use high levels of polluted air for breathing. Air pollution is a major contributor to heart disease in 24 percent of adults, 25 percent in stroke, 43 percent in pulmonary disease and 29 percent in lung cancer, the agency said.
Most air polluted countries:
China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and the United States are among the ten countries where the highest number of deaths are due to air pollution. Bangladesh ranks fifth.
China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and the United States are among the ten countries where the highest number of deaths are due to air pollution. Bangladesh ranks fifth.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says more people died from air pollution in 2016 than from road accidents or smoking.
Diseases that can be caused by polluted air:
Chronic lung diseases including heart disease, cough, pneumonia, lung infections, lung cancer, diabetes, asthma and respiratory diseases, stroke, cataracts, problems in children and pregnant women.
Things to do to prevent air pollution:
Building environmentally friendly infrastructure and its proper use is vital. Just as there is a need for environmental education at the school level, there is also a need for awareness at the individual and family level. Education and awareness will be successful only when we can ensure the development and use of environmental knowledge-based infrastructure.
Conclusion:
For the reduction of air pollution, we should avoid the use of vehicles older than 20 years. People can be encouraged to use CNG or LPG for fuelling their cars. Thus air pollution can be controlled to some extent. For this, it is very important for every person to have a role, not just the state or the government. So let's decontaminate the air, and keep ourselves alive for a long time.
