The Language Movement of 1952 of Bangladesh-Composition-Essay-SSC-HSC-BCS

Language movement refers to the mass movement organized to demand the state status of Bengali language. The great sacrifice of our heroic children on February 21, 1952 was not in vain. This sacrifice is now internationally recognized. The language movement has a great historical background. In 1947, British rule in the subcontinent came to an end. Two independent states, India and Pakistan, were born. Central leaders of Pakistan said that Urdu would be the state language of Pakistan. On the other hand, there was a demand from East Pakistan to make Bengali one of the state languages. But the central government of Pakistan completely ignored this demand of Bengali language. This angered the students and intellectuals of Dhaka. It at one time took the final form of the language movement. The ultimate victory was achieved through great sacrifice. It was decided to observe February 21, 1952 as Language Day. On this day, it was decided to observe a nationwide strike. Section 144 was issued in Dhaka to thwart this program. But the students and people of East Bengal violated Section 144 and staged a peaceful procession. The procession came in front of Dhaka Medical College. At this point, the police opened fire on the procession. Many unnamed students including Rafiq, Barkat, Salam and Jabbar died in it. People from all walks of life protested against this barbaric attack. 

Eventually Bengali was recognized as the state language. The government was forced to accept the bow. The proposal to make Bengali one of the state languages ​​was unanimously adopted. Then in 1956 Bengali was given the status of state language in the constitution. The final victory of the Bengali nation was achieved. This sacrifice of the Bengali nation for language has gained world recognition today. On 17 November 1999, UNESCO recognized Ekushey February as the International Mother Language Day. This is a great achievement for Bengali language and Bengalis. The seeds of Bengali independence were sown through the 1952 language movement. Self-sacrifice for language has gained international recognition. Today we can be proud of the great sacrifices for our martyrs.
