Bangladesh is called a country of natural disaster. Almost every year the people of Bangladesh have to encounter by the different kinds of natural disasters. Among them, ––––– is a one kind of terrible natural disaster. It visits almost every year in Bangladesh. It causes untold harm to the lives and properties of people.
The losses of this natural disaster beggar description. Houses and crops are damaged. Trees are uprooted. Hundreds of boats of fishermen are capsized. Bridges and wireless towers are also damaged. The sufferings of the common people know no bounds. They remain foodless and shelterless for days together. Various kinds of diseases like cholera, typhoid, dysentery etc. break out in an epidemic form in the affected areas. The scarcity of food, clothes and drinking water are seen everywhere.
After visiting this kind of natural disaster, relief operation becomes inevitable. For so, different kinds of government and non-government organizations come to assist the affected people during disaster. They distribute money, food, cloths, medicine etc. among the affected people. Sometimes, medical teams are seen to work in the affected areas.
Though it is not possible to remove such kind of natural disaster, we can reduce the losses taking some preventive measures. Therefore, awareness must be raised among the people about the preventive measures. Mass medias can play a vital role in this regard. Moreover, government should take some short and long term plans to reduce the losses.
In spite of having a lot of disadvantages, it has a little bit advantages. Water washes away dirty things. Water carries a huge amount of silt that makes the land fertile.
In the end, it can be said that we cannot prevent natural disaster. Nevertheless, disaster preparation and proper post disaster management can reduce losses.
