Grameen bank is a financial institution that works for the poor rural people. It is a micro-credit organization. Dr. Mohammad Yunus is the founder of the Bank. He thought to do something for the poor people. At first, he started a rural banking project at Jobra village in Chittagong in 1975. It is known as Grameen Bank. The main purpose of Grameen Bank is to eradicate poverty and to improve the economic condition of Bangladesh. Grameen Bank has introduced collateral free small loans for the poorer section of the society. It has now spread all over the world. Only the poor and landless people are eligible for getting loan. There are some rules and regulations of taking loan. The borrowers are advised to make the best use of the loan money. However, the achievements of Grameen Bank are many. It has won many international prizes and recognition. Dr. Mohammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank jointly won the prestigious Nobel peace prize in the year 2006 for establishing peace in the world by removing poverty. Grameen Bank has brought about a revolutionary change in the rural economy of Bangladesh. I hope that Grameen Bank would be able to uphold its successfulness.
