The rise in atmospheric temperature is known as the greenhouse effect. It is the gradual warming of the air surrounding the earth because of heat being trapped by environmental pollution. It is caused in a process. We know that our atmosphere is guarded by a ozone layer. This ozone layer resists the entrance of harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. But the increasing amount of carbon dioxide gas hampers the ozone layer. As a result, it can not resist the entrance of harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. For this reason, the temperature of the earth is becoming hotter day by day. For the same reason, the ice in the Polar Regions is also melting. Therefore, in near future, our country would go under water. Now, it is alarming news for Bangladesh. Besides, Climatologists predict that in next century, temperature may have risen by as much as 4°c. This could reduce humankind's ability. It also could severely damage wildlife and wilderness. Therefore, we must be checked global warming. Cutting down of forests must be stopped. Tree plantation programme also must be made more popular. Sources of emitting carbon dioxide must be controlled by creating public awareness.
