Natural Calamities of Bangladesh Composition in 300 Words

[Introduction, Flood, Cyclone, Heavy rainfall & draught, Conclusion]

Bangladesh is a country of natural calamities. Flood, cyclone, storm, heavy rainfall, drought etc. visit almost every year in this country. People have to survive fighting against these natural disasters.

Flood is a common natural disaster in Bangladesh. Almost every year it visits our country and causes great harm to our lives and properties. People become homeless and foodless. They have to starve for days together. Houses and cattle are washed away. Trees are uprooted. People have to take shelter on the top of high roads and buildings. They suffer from many diseases. Cholera, typhoid, dysentery etc. break out in an epidemic form in the affected areas. People need food, clothes and drinking water. The floods of 1998 and 2004 are the example of such flood.

Cyclone is another natural disaster in our country. It also visits almost every year. It hits our country especially in summer or in late autumn season. The losses of cyclone beggar description. Trees and houses are razed to the ground. Boats of fishermen are capsized. Dangerous tidal bores sweep away houses and cattle. People become foodless and shelter less. They suffer from different kinds of water borne diseases.

Heavy rainfall and drought are also common in Bangladesh. In rainy season, sometimes rain lasts for days together. As a result, this excessive rainfall overflows rivers and canal banks. It causes flood. On the other hand, the existence of drought in our country is not less. In summer seasons, it causes great harm to our crops. Some parts of the country become just like desert. Farmers have to suffer a lot due to lack of water. This natural disaster has very adverse effects on flora and fauna.

Our people always have to fight against these natural calamities. We can not prevent them. But, disaster preparation and post disaster proper management can reduce the losses.

Floods of Bangladesh Composition in 300 Words

[Introduction, Causes, Recent floods, Losses, Remedies, Merits, Conclusion]

Flood is a one kind of natural disaster. It causes untold harm to the lives and properties of people. It is an annual natural disaster for Bangladesh.

The causes of flood are many. Excessive rainfall is the main cause of it. Rivers and canals can not carry the rain water to the sea rapidly. So, there is rapid increase of water in the rivers and canals which overflow their banks and cause of flood. The capacity of carrying water of our river is reducing day by day. As a result, the lower land of the country easily goes under water and it causes flood. Sometimes, tidal bores cause flood.

Though flood visits our country almost every year, the floods of 1998 and 2004 affected almost all over the country. They had broken all the previous records of losses and miseries.

The losses of floods beggar description. Houses, crops and cattle are washed away. Trees are uprooted. People become foodless and shelter less. They take shelter on the high roads and buildings. They have to starve days together. Epidemic and famine break out in the affected areas. So, various kinds of diseases like cholera, typhoid and dysentery break out in an epidemic form. There is the scarcity of food, clothes and drinking water everywhere.

Though it is not possible to remove flood, we can reduce the losses taking some preventing measures. We have to increase the depth of our rivers. Proper embankments should be constructed. A well planned irrigation system must be managed. Above all, long and short term plans must be taken to implicate these.

Though flood causes great losses to us, it does a little bit good for us. It makes our land fertile by carrying silt. It also washes away filth and dirt.

Soon the sound of the wind becomes as loud as the booming of the cannon. The current of the wind is never steady and regular, but is always fitful and violent. The whole sky looks like a sheet of dark cloud. This is the sign of the imminent crisis. Blasts of winds grow stronger. This terrific state continues for hours together and it often lasts for a whole day.

I can remember some of the worst cyclones in Bangladesh in the recent years. The cyclone of November 1970 was one of the worst cyclones in Bangladesh. Hundreds of lives were lost in this cyclone. The cyclone of 1985 and 1991 are also notable. The people who live near the river and lower part of the country are the most victims of these cyclones.
